Topic: Walking in harmony
Bible Passage: Ephesians 4:1-6
“I therefore a
prisoner for the Lord, beg you to live a life worthy of the calling to which
you have been called, with all lowliness and meekness, with patience forbearing
one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the spirit in the bond of
peace” (vs.1-3).
The Christian living always goes with high expectations.
Much is required from the believer in integrity, holiness and ability to walk
in love. This is because when we received Christ; we received at the same time
power to live out this standards of life for God. To whom much is given much is
expected. This is what Paul meant when he pleaded that people should walk
worthy of the calling already received from the Lord.
Hence we are encouraged no to live life the world but to
live life worthy of emulation with specific target. This target is all about
the unity of the whole body of Christ, so the Christian life must go on in
isolation, but along with one another in good relationship. Apostle John
encouraged the believers to walk in righteousness and in love. By this it might
be seen who the children of the devil are and who the children of God are,
whoever does not do right is not of God neither him that love not his brother
(1 John 3:10).
We are designed to function better along with each other and
be more productive as a united force. So we must shelve our differences and
forge ahead together to reach the Master’s target.
We say so because when people of different backgrounds,
world views and temperament come together in any form, there must be misunderstanding,
sometimes disagreements and conflicts. When they occur, love is the virtue that
binds together and so the offended person must be ready to forgive. This is why
emphasis was laid on people to humbly and patiently tolerate and accommodate
one another.
It is the will of God for us to harness our various
resources, human, material and spiritual together to build up the church. It
must be emphasized that the whole essence of our gifts is only for the building
up of the body of Christ. When we make up our minds to work together, to build
up one another, the church of God grows fast into mature manhood to the
fullness of the stature of Christ.
We must not run down one another because when we do so we
are destroying the church of God that Jesus suffered for and bought with His
most precious blood.
Action: It is
important to walk worthy of our calling in the Spirit of unity.
Prayer Points:
1.
Help me Oh God, to live out in full the real
purpose of your calling in my life.
2.
Let the weight that besets your people never
defeat them.
3.
God help the members of the body to form a
united front to achieve your purpose.
