Topic: Winning in adversity
Bible Passage: Genesis 47:13-19
“Why should we die
before your eyes both we and our land” (v.19).
The passage shows the lamentation of the Egyptians in the
time of severe famine. According to the vision, the famine that was revealed
will swallow up everything in the land.
Here again we notice the value God attaches to humanity.
This famine that took place throughout the world was so severe; and also
continued for long time. The Bible disclosed that men will talk about the
abundant, goodness of God. Ps 45:7a. His compassion is over all His works.
God’s compassion over all His work is clearly seen in the
experiences of sons of Jacob and also through the revealed destiny of Joseph.
He gave pharaoh a dream and brought Joseph to interpret the dream and thereby
creating a way into food security when the famine will hit the lands very
badly. He gave the grace that enabled them to keep enough food that could cover
the length of the period for the severe famine.
Are you faced with any difficulty in this life, the Bible
tells us that perilous times shall come, times of stress and immense
difficulty, those who are going through hardship or other difficult challenges
must remember that God is faithful, He will not allow you to sink.
Once when Jesus and His disciples were travelling in
their boat they encountered a storm that threatened the stability of the boat.
Our Lord was awakened by His disciples and He rebuked the storm to restore
calm.
The famine in Egypt constrained the people to say; “Why should we dire”. It was so severe
that it was a threat to their existence, yet God had before that time set a
plan that will save them from famine. Beloved the omniscient God knows what
will come to you in future, he knows what you are passing through now, and He
has a plan for you to rescue you from whatever that may come your way.
When faced with a life’s challenge, do not yield to it,
remember that the mercies of God that will save you has already be put in
motion as he did it before He will do it again. Desire the good that can come
out of it, when God finally turns it around, take it up to God He shall
manifest your positive desire in the midst of tough challenges, especially if
you persist in our position and trusting him, God fulfils our desire. He
fulfills the desire of every living, the (Psalm 145:16), in the case of the
Egyptians, Joseph was the instrument God used, God will use somebody you know
or somebody you do not know to favour you and turn your trouble around for
good.
Action: Do not
faint in the days of adversity your helper is near, to deliver you.
